T-shirt Fringed Flip Flops

Good Afternoon!  

It's been a while I know, but my hubby is on vacation and we are enjoying his time off! Swimming, grilling, relaxing have been our mantra for the last week or so.  We even fit in an awesome day trip which I will tell you about soon!

Today my post is about flip flops. You know the ones I mean - the not so cute ones that are about $3. Well they CAN be cute with this method.  If you are like me your kids or better half are an ever ending supply of old t-shirts - and that's just what you need to make these flip flops!

Good morning!

Another month almost under our belts - WOW - doesn't it seem like January is just flying by?  Before we know it summer will be here! And speaking of summer, today's 'how-to' will be much needed when summer comes.

For all of you who don't use pinterest or haven't been invited yet, I am sharing a post from there that I think is just brilliant!  This is just the ticket if you have a BUNCH of flip flops like me.  It appears easy to do and certainly keeps them better organized than being all over the house! Love this idea, don't you?

Wine Glass Snowman Votive Holders

Good morning!

My son is keeping a close watch on the calendar this year!  He informed me this morning that it is 10 days until Christmas....to him that seems like an eternity, but for the rest of us it's push time, right?

Today I want to show you these cute votive holders that are made from wine glasses.  I couldn't agree more that these would be cute teacher's gifts!  I wish I had come across them before now since we've already purchased this years teacher gifts.  But alas, there is always next year!

I personally love snowmen and I love that they can be used into the new year because for me they just signify winter! These things are cute, cute, cute!  And it appears to be fairly easy to make them, too!

Dolphin Tale's 'Winter' and Paver Pumpkins

Good morning!  

I hope your weekend was great!  We went to see the movie "Dolphin Tale".  It is sooooooo good - please go see it if you get a chance.  It is based on a true story about a female dolphin that gets injured and how she is saved.  The star of the movie is 'Winter' and she is in Florida at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.  If you want to check her out - I've put up her live webcam feed in the upper right hand corner for the time being.  You can see her in all her glory - no tail and all!!!  Truly amazing!!! Now on to today's post.

Since it is now fall, I thought I'd show you a keyhole paver painted as a pumpkin.  To me pumpkins just signify fall, Halloween, and even Thanksgiving so these cuties could be used for a nice period of time in your decorating! 

This project is very simple with wonderful results.  They would sit nicely just about anywhere.  I like them as they're pictured below - sitting among a fall type garland.  They would look really good on a mantle or entryway table.  But no matter where you decide to show them off, they would look great!

After Irene and Upcycled Wipes Container!!

Good afternoon. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!  


Hurricane Irene passed over North Carolina on Saturday.  We were hoping to be inland far enough to not be affected that much.  Unfortunately that wasn't the case.  Our town experienced quite a bit of damage.  The rain came down in buckets and the wind blew harder than I'd ever seen.  And we were on the outskirts of the storm!  Can't even imagine being closer to the eye.   We watched and waited with bated breathe for the storm to subside....only to lose power at 4:00 Saturday afternoon and for the storm to continue through the evening.


We finally had our power restored last night!  Hurray!!!  The biggest benefit of having power again is air conditioning!  It was super hot the day after the storm and it heated up the house pretty fast.  But all is well again here at our house and other than school being cancelled for a 2nd day we are getting back to normal.  


So on to today's post.

If you have an overabundance of plastic Walmart bags like we do then this should help. Not only does it help keep them organized, but it also makes them handy to transport in your car or boat or wherever you need to have a bag available!

Now I know you could just clean out the container and put the bags in and be done with the whole thing. But why not take it a step further and make it cute, right? Heck you might even want to put this on your kitchen counter after you spice it up!  This might even make a nice teacher gift - it certainly is unique!

Watermark T-Shirt

Hey! Hope your weekend was great.  This weekend ended up being movie weekend.  We rented 'Soul Surfer' and 'Little Fockers' on Friday.  Both were very good.  Saturday we watched 'Life as We Know It'.  And finally, yesterday we went to see 'The Change Up' with Ryan Reynolds and Justin Bateman - it was hysterical!!!!! If that wasn't enough, we rented 'Alpha and Omega' last night!  WOW - 5 movies in 3 days!!!!  Sometimes you just need to chill, I guess.

I have to say that we have watched more movies since we cancelled Netflix and started using Red Box and Blockbuster Express!  The price increase that Netflix put in to place was ridiculous and so we said goodbye to them after almost 8 years.  And I have to say that it has been an easy switch to Red Box and Blockbuster and a whole bunch cheaper!!!!

So - on to today's post.  I think that this is a fun idea to change the look of a plain tee.  I love the idea of a poem or saying!  Cute stencils would be interesting, too.  It really is up to your imagination.  Cute - Cute - Cute!!

Rock Alphabet

Good morning!  

I know I've been MIA lately, but I've been suffering with terrible back and leg pain.  Plus the heat here is enough to kill you.  It is high time we get back to normal.  A lot of the country is suffering with these temperatures and I feel for everyone.  Especially people who work outside - like my hubby.  I see how drained and tired he is at the end of the day.  He says the best advice he can give is Drink Plenty of Water, take breaks, and get in the shade as much as possible!

Anyway, on to today's post.  I just love these rocks!  I wish I had come across these when Cristian was younger!  My dear friend is a 1st Grade teacher and we are going to make these for her classroom.  Most of the kids know their ABC's, but it will help with spelling and reading.  Aren't they cute?  Want some for your kids or grand kids?  Go here to see how it's done!  DIY Rock Alphabet

Buzzy Bee Watering Can

Hi, everyone!

This week my friend Michele and I made this for her classroom.  Her theme is bees - can you tell?  We've been making all kinds of things - a name block, a picture block all about her, and a hive treasure box.  Next on the agenda is baby wood bees for her students.

This project wasn't really planned but I think it came out very good.  It is a watering can converted to a flower vase.  Cute!  The little bees just made the whole thing!

My Table Leg Uncle Sam

Hello!  Hope you are having a fantastic day!

I wanted to get this project done before the 4th of July but time somehow got away from me.  It's finally done and I think I'll still display him for the rest of the month!  I'm sure there are alot of things that can be made from a table leg!  I'm going to have to make a point of looking to see.

2x4 Wood Bees

Good afternoon!

I have been enjoying my hubby being home this week.  He's been diligently working on our new laundry room!  It is coming along quite nicely I have to say. The floor should be done today and then we have to have the plumber and electrician come to help get the washer and dryer hook ups done.  It's going to be great to have this completed!!!  I've taken pictures as he's done each step so I'll post everything once it's done.

Today I want to show you a cute 2x4 craft.  I originally made these for Cristian's kindergarten class, since they are the Belmont Bees.  His teacher gave them to the kids at the end of the year as part of their graduation.  There are boy and girl bees - can you tell which is which?

They are very easy to make.  One 12 foot long 2x4 makes 24 bees.  Each bee is 6 inches high.  Once you get the 2x4 cut, be sure to sand the edges and corners until they are smooth.  Then paint it yellow.  I used self stick felt strips for the bottom (but you could probably use chenille stems as well).  I printed the faces and after laminating them glued them to the front.  The chenille stem antennae is inserted in a drilled hole in the top with a black pony bead to give it a more finished look.  The girls got a bow and the boys didn't!  The wings are simply round pieces of black tulle gathered in the center and held in place with a piece of a chenille stem. They are hot glued to the back.  All done!

Hope this has inspired you to make your own little hive of bees - LOL!

Flip Flop Re-Do

Good morning!

I don't know about you but I love sandals and flip flops in the spring and summer.  If I can't be barefoot then flip flops are for me!  But sometimes that little piece that goes between the toes doesn't feel so good, right?

Here is the perfect solution!  It won't work for all flip flops, but it will certainly take an inexpensive pair and make them look fabulous!!!!!!!!!!  It also helps with the little annoying piece between the toes - yippee!
