Good morning!

Here in NC we are having a very mild winter.  We recently enjoyed temperatures in the low 70's.  It is evident that the temps are warm since I noticed that my daffodils have come up and are starting to bud. Even for North Carolina, I think it's a little early for that!

All of this brings me to today's post.  I happened across a terrific site for planting and caring for bulbs.  With spring right around the corner, the timing couldn't have been more perfect.  So I knew I had to pass it along to all of you!  Go here to see what it's all about:

Patio Paver Planter Box

Good Morning!

Well, it's July 1!  Where did June go?  It went by so fast, didn't it?  My hubby is on vacation for 2 weeks starting Sunday and I know he can't wait!  Then again, neither can Cristian and I!  We have some honey do things that need to get done but we want to do some fun family things, too!  We're starting off with baseball and fireworks on the 4th - can't wait!  We're thinking about some time at the lake - a few days of sun, boating, fishing, and relaxing!  Maybe even a day trip to the beach - who knows.  Nothing is written in stone right now and we plan to just play it by ear.

Today's post is something I'd really like to add to our outside list of things to do!  I think it is ingenius!  How many times have you bought a big pot only to have it be ruined after a few seasons being in the elements?  Too many times, right? DIY - Build a Firepit

Happy Saturday!

I'm adding yet another outdoor project to my hubby's honey do list!  If you are like us, you enjoy time outdoors.  Wouldn't you love to have a firepit area?  I know I would.  Since we are in the planning stages of putting in a patio, I'm really liking the idea of adding a firepit!

Yet Another Outdoor Project - 'Tipsy' Flower Pots!

Good morning!  

Our weekend was fairly busy - how about yours?  Now that the weather is nice it seems like there is always so much to do in the yard.  We spent most of yesterday starting the landscaping project in our front yard.  And by starting I mean pulling out all the old stuff that has been there since we moved into the house back in 2006!  Believe me, it was long overdue to be done!!!!

Also, my flower pots were looking kind of sad and needed some flowers!  So after a trip to Lowe's Home Improvement (one of my favorite stores), we got busy potting the petunias.  I picked petunias because they are hardy, like the sun, grow easily, bloom all summer (don't forget to dead head them), and most importantly attract hummingbirds!

A couple of years ago we planted day lilies around our lamp post and added a border.  But that area still needed something....so DH and I added this:



Tipsy Flower Pots

What do you think?  Amazingly, it was pretty simple to do!  We used a 5 foot piece of 1/2" metal conduit to stabilize them.  The bottom pot is 12", then there are three 8" pots, and topped off with a 6" pot.  These particular pots did not have drain holes, but that was easily solved with a cordless drill and a big drill bit (we put the holes right in the center).  Once the holes were done, the conduit got tapped into the ground.  (No real science there, we just sort of eye balled it!) Then the fun began - stacking the flower pots - adding the potting soil and petunias - and Voila! 'Tipsy Flower Pots' to admire.

I'm so happy with how it turned out that I'm totally thinking about doing a larger version (bigger pots) in my backyard once we get the patio finished!  (haven't told my hubby yet, though - LOL)

Maybe this gave you an idea for a landscaping project for your patio or yard. If so, have fun with it.  The sky really is the limit.  You could paint the pots, or use them as address markers, or just leave them plain like I did (I liked the color of the pots so much that I hated to change them).  But whatever you do, make it your own!

Outdoor Projects

Hey!  It's TGIF - Hurray!

Spring is in full bloom here in North Carolina and that means outside projects!  My darling husband just shakes his head because his honey-do list keeps getting bigger and bigger.  LOL!!  Here are a few of the things that we'd like to get accomplished outside.

A New Mailbox



Privacy Screens for the Sitting Area in the Front of Our House



Both project were featured at the Lowes Creative Ideas website.  I subscribed to the project magazine (it's free, by the way) and the privacy screens were in the March Issue.  When I went online to get the specs I found the mailbox. 

There's one more that I like - a 4 seasons planter. Each season the flowers change but the Dwarf Spruce remains a constant.  I really like the idea of this planter - I only wish I could decide on a place to put it!  Any ideas?

Wish me luck because I'm seriously thinking of doing some interior painting as well and maybe even redoing my kitchen cabinets - a little too ambitious?  We'll see!
